Festival Tips - it's business time.

Queenstown Winter Festival is our annual celebration of the start of winter, when the community welcomes visitors to share their annual letting off of steam before the busy snow season. Get the most out of four days that attract an estimated 45,000 domestic and international visitors to town.

Queenstown Winter Festival is our annual celebration of the start of winter.  It’s a time when the community of Queenstown welcomes visitors to share their annual letting off of steam before the busy snow season.

Each year an estimated 45,000 domestic and international visitors will join the party. While it is a community event at its heart, the Festival offers local businesses not only a programme of hosting opportunities but also a platform to expose their brand, out of the square team building and professional development ideas and ways to give back to their community.

We’ve pulled together some suggestions on how Queenstown business can benefit from and leverage this year’s Festival.

A community event at its heart, Festival is a chance for the business sector to support the community that is home to their businesses, clients and staff. The Mitre10 Mega Raft Race is raising funds for the new Coastguard premises.  Local businesses are encouraged to build a raft and enter to support the Coastguard appeal and show the community their support.

The NRG Duck Race raises funds for Happiness House and Coastguard Queenstown.  Local businesses sponsor a fearless rubber duck on its perilous fundraising journey down Horne Creek. The Real Journey’s Thank you Cruise will recognise unsung heroes in the community. Businesses are encouraged to nominate staff for recognition of their unpaid community work.

The Festival offers multiple ways for businesses to host. The 2017 Apres Ski Bar & Dining programme brings together great ideas for treating clients or team shouts.  The Shanghai Nights SKYCITY Ball and Comedy Night are ultimate hosting opportunities and ways to say thanks.

Team building

Nothing pulls a team together like an out of the square challenge. The Old Mout Dodgeball Championships is a goofy yet competitive team event. If your business is hospitality then the Festival’s oldest running event, the QRC Hospo Race is a must. Set your team the challenge of building a Hits 90.4 Birdman or a Mitre10Mega Raft Race entry.

With 45,000 visitors and multiple national media outlets covering the Festival, exposure for your brand and business is there for the taking. The Festival works hard for its sponsors and supporting businesses creating opportunities to shamelessly shake their tail feathers for attention. Entering events like The Hits 90.4 Birdman, the Mitre10 Raft Race, the QRC Hospo Race, the Old Mout Dodgeball Championships, NRG Duck Race, and Downtown QT will get your name out there.

A Festival of this size and reputation in our back yard offers unique learning experiences.  The annual NZSki Business Lunch brings together the town’s business community with leading national speakers.  Each year the speakers at PechaKucha by MacPac challenge and inspire.  Send your social media team members to the Olympus Queenstown Winter Meet to learn from the influencer gurus.
