Every year our heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to all of those who volunteer their time to assist us in making our festival events run like clockwork. We need you, and we would love for you to be a part of our team!

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Admin Support

Help the festival management team with various administration tasks. Duties will vary from marketing collateral distribution in town to a range of back office work.

Requirements: Ability to multitask, work well within a team, available during office hours

Event Set-Up / Pack Down

Help manage the speedy set up and pack down of various day and night events. This position may involve some medium -heavy lifting.

Requirements: An ability to work in a team, showcase initiative and be prepared to do some physical work

Day Events 2nd in Command

Help set up and run an event from start to finish - everything from the Jucy Undy 500 to The Hits 90.4 Birdman. You will be assisting with setting up courses, signage, registration of participants and packing up when the event is done.

Requirements: Ability to work with your own initiative, proactive, highly organized, high-energy, dress in appropriate winter gear

Crowd Control

This role is the “law enforcement” festival position. Duties will involve marshalling crowds during events such as the Carnival Night Parade and being the “go to person” for festival information.

Requirements: Clear communication, approachable, friendly and confident manner

Data Recorder

In this digital age, we are moving forward.  Tablets will record participants data and produce records for supplying to media.  You will need to be proficient in Excel and the different operating systems on Mac, PC and Android.  You will assist the Mountain and Day Events Managers.

Requirements: IT experience, trouble-shooter, clear communication skills, appropriate winter gear, quick thinker

Time Keeper

This is very much a key role in all events where a 1st, 2nd, 3rd position is awarded. You will be the first in line to gather all the details from the winners and report to the event manager with precise data.

Requirements: Confident, clear communication skills, appropriate winter gear, quick minded person

Mascot

This person will be taking part in the Carnival for 2 hour shifts, you will be dressed in festival costume which will be provided and will be given appropriate guidance by the Event Manager.  This role is loads of fun and you get to stay anonymous!

Requirements: Fun and friendly, ability to work well with the general public, outgoing personality and happy to wear a costume.

Mountain Events 2nd in Command

This person will be working closely with our event manger on the mountain and will be outdoors all day. Responsibilities could vary from assisting with the setup of an obstacle course to keeping the pooch in line for the Monteith's Dog Derby!

Requirements: Ability to work with your own initiative, proactive, highly organized, high-energy, dress in appropriate winter gear, ability to ski/snowboard and have your own gear with you on the day

Festival Front of House Usher

Help collect and scan tickets at our ticketed events, assist with showing people to their correct seat in a timely manner and assist the Event Manager with fire warden duties. Once the event has finished you are required to assist with the pack up of the venue.

Requirements: Friendly and approachable personality, tidy black attire (including black shoes), confident and highly efficient

Prop Making

Some of our events require a small number of creative people who can assist with general theming of events, including assembling small props and/or installing the decorations.

Requirements: Creative, detail-orientated, handy at making things.

Festival Ambassador

This role includes acting as an ambassador for Winter Festival and will be based out of the information area in the Festival Hub.  You will be answering questions from Festival goers, distributing information or handing out festival products. You’ll be working with the Information Tent Manager and the Marketing and Sponsorship Manager - generally ensuring people attending festival events have good experiences.

Requirements: Polite and friendly, well-presented, able to remember what’s going on at festival, fun or outgoing personality, good with kids

Media & Imagery Assistant

This person will work alongside the Media Relations Manager helping with posting images on the Festival website, collating event results, assisting Festival photographers and some content writing.

Requirements: Detail-orientated and methodical, ability to work well and fast in a busy environment, familiar with Silverstripe, good written communication skills.

Media Relations Assistant

This person will work alongside the Media Relations Manager helping with media accreditation, media assistance at events and some content writing. 

Requirements: Good written communication skills, ability to work well and fast in a busy environment, unflappable.  

Photography Interns

This person (2-3 positions potentially available) will work alongside the Media Manager and the QWF photographers to deliver specified images of the Festival and specific events for media, sponsor, social media and marketing use. The turnaround time from taking photographs to delivering to the Media Manager and Media & Imagery Assistant is within 2-4 hours of the event completion including editing and meta data describing. Videographers also considered.  

Requirements: Experience photographing events, own equipment although access to office space for editing and downloading will be given, ability to work well and fast in a busy environment. 

Sponsorship Assistant

Assist the Marketing and Sponsorship Manager with meeting sponsor’s contractual obligations across the 4 days.  You will be assisting with event/activation set up, signage requirements and responding to Sponsor requests.

Requirements: High level of communication skills in order to work with VIP’s and Sponsors, ability to work well and fast in a busy environment, detail orientated and show initiative.

Marketing Assistant

Assisting the Marketing and Sponsorship Manager and also the Marketing Coordinator with all marketing tasks including loading content onto our Festival website, taking photos and videos, and use of our social media channels.

Requirements: Familiar with Silverstripe, good written communication skills, full understanding of all social media platforms, which also includes understanding tone and content marketing.
