Brand new for the 2017 Queenstown Winter Festival is a vibrant and fun community night walking parade!
Auckland Airport Carnival - Community Night Walking Parade
When: 5pm, Sunday 25 June 2017
Where: Starting from Memorial Arch, finishing St Omer Park
Open to: Local community groups, clubs & individuals (no commercial businesses)
Cost: FREE to enter
A vibrant addition to the Auckland Airport Carnival, the Community Night Walking Parade will weave its way along Marine Parade, through the streets of Queenstown, through Earnslaw Park and finish at St Omer Park. The theme is "The Colour and Culture of Queenstown" and the aim is to celebrate the diverse Queenstown community so we want as many members of our community involved as possible.
As it will be at night, participants not only need to theme your costumes and props to relate to the culture/theme you represent, but also be bright and sparkly – think lights, torches, glow paint, LED strings, and lanterns. Noise is also encouraged – the Walking Parade is a celebration – we want it to be fun for everyone and have some great spot prizes up for grabs for participants!
You are welcome to submit your cultural or community groups own ideas, plus we have also got some established groups ready to go that you can simply join with by registering online – so there are several ways to get involved.
So if you are a local community group, club or individual and keen to get involved, register your details and we'll be in touch soon!

To get the kiddies involved, we are running a series of art workshops before and during the Festival so that children can create their own masterpieces, bird mask or star lantern and show them off during the Walking Parade.

Make your own Masterpiece from Home
If you can’t make it along to the workshops but still want your child to participate in the parade, we’ve got some downloadable instructions on how to create their own masterpiece from home.
You’ll need to print it off, assemble it and bring it along on parade day.

Be a Winter Character
We know there are tons of little winter fairy’s and snowmen out there who love winter as much as we do here at festival HQ and we’d love for them to join us in the parade so have created a group especially for them!
All they need to do is turn up, ready and dressed in costume on the day of the parade and they are in! We’d like to get an idea of how many of our special little friends will be joining us, so register your details below and we’ll be in touch.
Make a Chinese Lantern
Call into the igloo on Sunday 25th at the Carnival on Earnslaw Park before 4pm and make your own Chinese lantern for the parade
