To make our opening evening even more special, we will be kicking off proceedings in Earnslaw Park with a traditional Karakia before being guided through our beautiful streets, welcoming in New Zealand’s winter in true celebratory style.
Purchase a ticket in advance to redeem for a fire torch on the day, get cosied up and bring the whanau down for an unforgettable evening.
Queenstown celebrates Matariki in an iconic Torchlight Hikoi through our streets and onto Marine Parade. A Hikoi is a communal walk or march. Our incoming Manuhiri is you. Manuhiri means guests or visitors, and even if you’ve been a Queenstown local for many years, in this instance you are the incoming tribe to be assessed and welcomed into Tahuna, Queenstown. We’re fiercely proud of our whakapapa, and encourage you to fully embrace the start of New Zealand’s winter with us.
