Monday Monday - Day 4

Monday Monday, can't trust that day.

Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way...the Mamas and the Papas were definitely on to something when they sung that song. When I woke up Monday morning my eyes hurt, so did my back and my throat felt as if I had swallowed a grenade and it had exploded! Things were not good and to add to the confusion I suddenly realized I was not in bed alone! Oh no, what had I done, this is not how I roll! I cast my mind back to last night, but it was all a little blurry...perhaps I partied too hard, even to my own standards...hmmm note to self...I may need to calm down a bit, we still have a whole 6 days to go!  My ponderings are broken as suddenly the person in bed next to me groans...arrrghhh, they are alive and waking up! Resigned to the fact that this situation needs more investigation...I nervously I pulled back the covers to figure out exactly who my new bedmate is...at first glimpse I catch sight of blonde hair (weird I don't even fancy blondes), even worse it has long blonde hair, oh god it's a Fabio look a like, I'm cringing and about to bolt for the safety of the bathroom when 'Fabio' rolls over, looks at me and speaks...."Yawwwn...oh, did I not make it to my own room last night??!", Phew...relief washes over me, it's only Jo, doing what she loves to do – freak me out. Mission accomplished.

There's little rest for the wicked, so we were up and off to the ice rink, home of the Southern Stampede ice hockey team, we're heading there to meet Jamie Moore-Carter, an Ice Black and Forward for the Southern Stampede, he's promised to teach us some sweet moves on the ice with a puck and stick. On arrival, we find the ice rink packed with a little kids.  There's a lot of them skating, all whizzing around and dancing to the bird dance, which is cranking at full noise from the audio system, it's hard to hold a conversation, let alone film and Jo, Jamie and I all looked at each other and we each said...OK…we didn’t really because that’s what happens in the song Tenacious D, it was more like we looked at each other with a weird look on our faces and thought this is clearly not the greatest environment to learn to play hockey in especially with the threat of potential injury to us and all the little fraggles skating past at speed! Jamie suggested we come back later for one of the team training session where we would have the ice rink to ourselves and could grab some of the boys from training for interviews as well. Perfect solution!

With filming postponed and time to spare we decided to walk on down to Joe's Garage and grab some breakfast.  That's the awesome thing about Queenstown, everything is in walking distance and you don't really need a car to get around. We rocked into Joe's and grabbed two tables at the back so we could lean against the wall, the cafe has a slightly industrial fit out and the staff are all very friendly and laid back creating a cruisy vibe.  These guys are well known for amazing coffee and mean grill food, but they also do other standard brekkie fare as well. Jo and I peruse the menu and given my growing flu like condition I decided on their home made muesli which is full of nuts and very healthy according to Gemma our waitress, Jo on the other hand is after something a little more greasy, funny that, and ops for the Big brekkie.   It goes down a treat and we're joined by our buddies from Code who are after a big feed before they hit the Zip Line for some down hill flying fox action! I'm not sure if the combination of food and a flying fox is a good one, but these dudes are big lads so I guess they can handle it. From here, we stroll back to hotel for some mad blogging and editing before hitting the comedy tonight.

The afternoon rolls on quite nicely except the flu has taken Lisa into a coma in bed.   I leave her there to rest up and regain full power....So whilst Lisa is all rugged up in bed I troop on to the The Oak’s Hotels & Resorts Comedy Gala to have a good chuckle chuckle.  The venue has been once again transformed into a theatre and people are rolling in – the place is sold out.  Brendhan Lovegrove kicks the night off with so many inappropriate jokes it’s not funny..but it is super funny… He immediately targets one guy in the front row who happens to be from Invercargill and what can I say he opened himself up for punishment…He was picked on all night.  Urzilla Carlson was first up and immediately received roaring laughs from the crowd with her opening joke of moving the mic stand so that you could see her – look at the footage and you will see what I mean.  Paul Ego dished out a couple of actual jokes 2 men came into a bar but they were joined by a third man, Jeremy Elwood jokes about kids, Ben Hurley jokes about everything and anything and Michelle A’Court found that she now has a poo joke – a very important element in the world of the comedian.  From there they switched into 7 days mode which had the audience in fits of laughter as they ridiculed each other.  Check out the footage for a glimpse of the action.

So after having a ball, I snuck off once again to indulge in a ferg burger and hit the sack..Lisa you missed out on that one.
