Day 3..It's Time To Embrace the Craziness!!

Is it time to get up already? Indeed it was especially as the days adventures were about to take off. The More FM day on the bay. If you’ve never been here before then this is something that will have you rolling on the ground goof laughing over and over again. The day starts with The famous Birdman Competition.

The aim to dress up, create a skit and jump off the wharf into the ice cold lake. What an awesome idea… Wait till you see the footage of this…First up was Pack and Send’s A-Team who created a cardboard tank and chased Osama Bin Laden over the edge…super funny and great acting!! Next was Aladdin and his Genie, of course Aladdin wished to fly and on a magic carpet he did…right over the edge – the genie was happy to push him off. Also taking the stage a late entry – Karl Te Nana from Hyundai Code dressed as an Angel donning skins and angel wings – clearly those wings didn’t work. But taking home the winning prize today was “Bounce” who did a synchronized dance on moon hoppers whilst wearing orange morph suits – with no undies on…hmmm nothing more to say about that one.. A great show though..

From here the massive crowds moved towards the beach to catch the jet sprints where 5 jetboats took part in the dare-devil Air New Zealand Holiday Jet Sprints. Lisa picked the prime position to stand and within 30secs was drowned by the powerful spray as the jet boats roared past. They darted through the course with ease and I can tell you we are in safe hands on the water these guys can really handle their boats. Skippers Canyon who also won last year showed how skilled they are by taking home the winning prize yet again – the driver had a rope tied to the front and was whipping the boat like a bucking bull as he took on the course.

Quiksilver took over the beach next with a paddle board and surf race. In relay style teams had to squeeze their butts, brace their abs and get paddling around the water course, run around a land course to tag their team mate. Oh there was carnage alright boards packing up on top of each other and the challenge to get around the first boy was were all the dirty tactics went down as teams would give each other a little nudge. Winners were locals Triple S from the Alpine Boards Riders Club – Mike Stewart, Andrew (Slappy) Salek and Bas Smith showing that the oldies have still got it.

The Budget Rent-a-Car Splash & Dash was next which included a 50 metre swim in the freezing waters of Lake Wakatipu followed by a sprint down the beach. The contestant’s all cladded in bright speedos and bikini’s – yes guys in bikinis were predominantly all male and only one female, Emily Cant proved tough enough to do it for the girls. I tried to get Lisa to enter since she was already soaking wet but there was no way she was going in. The winner – Mark Wilson and his sweet nipple covers came in top daugg.

The final event of the More FM Day on the Bay was the American Honey Hundy 500 where competitors took to an obstacle course wearing nothing but their undies. One of the girls even got out in the mix in her g-banger-good effort the crowd loved it. Swedish visitor Charlotta Svenungsson and Thijs Hubber took home the prizes.. It was like a greyhound race mixed up with hurdles and pure hilarity, especially as Wairangi Koopu from Code dove in the mix, and by dove I mean literally. Having being his first time entering the race he didn’t know shoes were essential on the rocky beach. He got off to a explosive start but after about a second felt the pain and resorted to twinkle toeing along for the rest of the course, he even tried a dolphin dive along the way but didn’t bring home the goods as he rolled in last. Unlucky..next time boys..

So that was it for the crazy events of the day, a quick stop to grab a bacon butty and some donuts then cut some of the footage back at the Dairy.

Boy does time fly down here, it felt like we had just sat down and low and behold we were up and off again. We headed down to Speight Ale House to catch up with the Code team for dinner and then to one of the festivals most sought after Charity events “Thriller in the Chiller” hosted by Dobbo.

The venue looked awesome and golly gosh was it packed out, 1300 supporters cheered on the boxers. It’s a great night and because it’s all locals fighting and everyone knows everyone the atmosphere was super exciting. I’ve never been to a boxing match where there is so much crowd interaction, standing ovations and pure rowwdiness. Pure gold. 22 local aspiring boxers stepped into the ring, one I know well Ryan from Mountain Scene whom came away trumps and just with a black eye as “Mean@Scene”.

The ladies fight between Lisa ‘Thunder’ Murphy and Clare ‘The Tempest’ Temperton was a goodie. Everyone stood for this one and cheered on the girls. It was like watching a street brawl as the two girls threw punches from every angle at pace landing quite a few good right hooks. Sugar Ray Leonard was a special guest last year and his advise was “duck, duck and duck again” well I can say from where I was sitting there wasn’t much ducking going on.

The night continued until the wee hours at the after party at Revolver, Barmuda and Ballarat where we as we are so good at doing cut some sweet shapes…

Another adventurous absolutely awesome action filled day.
